First Time User Registration for Interlibrary Loan
To request an item through Interlibrary Loan, you must first identify yourself to the Kelvin Smith Library's ILLiad system. To do this you will need to fill out the 'New Users Registration' form, using your Web browser.
Registration has three purposes:
Entering your personal information into the ILLiad system means you will not have to provide the information again every time you wish to submit a new interlibrary loan request. You can, however, update your personal profile as needed, should you change residence, phone number, e-mail address, status, department, etc., whenever you log into your ILLiad account.
Having your e-mail and regular mail addresses on file with Interlibrary Loan enables us to notify you promptly and deliver accurately when
your material arrives in the library. We recommend that you keep all contact information current, and suggest periodically checking your ILLiad profile to ensure it is up-to-date.
By specifying a Username and Password of your choosing, you will have secure access to information about your requests. You will also be able to review
the list of items you have requested in the past.
About your Username and Password
During registration, you will be asked to choose a Username and Password. You will use this Username and Password when logging on to the ILLiad system in the future.
Username
Choose anything you like, such as your name, abbreviations, or an alphanumeric code. We recommend using your uniquely assigned CASE Initials , e.g., 'abc12'. Remember, once you have determined your Username, you may not change it, and you cannot select one already in use by another patron. (If you ever forget your Username, contact the ILL staff
by e-mail at smithill@case.edu , or by phone at 216-368-3463 or 216-368-3517, M-F 9AM-4:30PM. Please do not set up a new ILLiad account.)
Password
Choose anything you like. We recommend that you follow good security practice and choose a password that is different from those you use to access other systems. Remember -- your password will be CASE SENSITIVE .
ILLiad will encrypt your password, so it will remain secure -- only you will know your password.
If you forget your password, ILLiad provides the ability to reset it automatically.
(Please do not set up a new ILLiad account. If you experience difficulty resetting your Password, contact the ILL staff
by e-mail or phone during regular office hours. We are unable to tell you what your password is, but can set it to a default value, if necessary.)
Important Copyright Information
WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.
Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction.
One of these specified conditions is that the
photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research". If a user makes a request for, or later uses,
a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use", that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
For more information, visit the library's Copyright page.
Regarding Returnable Materials Borrowed Through ILL
You are expected to adhere to any restrictions associated with loaned items, such as “No Renewals”, “Library Use Only”, or “Handle With Care”. (These are stipulated by the lender libraries, and are not negotiable.)
You will also be responsible for the proper and timely return of all borrowed ILL materials directly to Kelvin Smith Library. Failure to do so may result in the blocking of your account with limited privileges, and possible billing for the replacement of any lost items.
